Top seeded and defending champion Rafael Nadal dispatched Colombian qualifier Robert Farah 6-2, 6-3 in just under an hour and a half to reach the quarter-finals of Barcelona Open.
Nadal made a solid start to the match as he broke Farah in the very opening game of the match and again for the second time at 5-2 before he served out for the first set lead in the match.
Both players exchanged a break in the start of the second set but it was Nadal who got the crucial break in the seventh game to subdue Farah and his hopes of fighting further. A couple of double faults from Farah saw Nadal raise his arms and prevail into the next round.
Nadal will next face Serbian Janko Tipsarveic, who ousted Frederico Gil 6-2, 6-2.
