Davis Cup is approaching and the match on the schedule of every tennis professional. But the Davis Cup has not been everyone's priority. A couple of players among the top ten have withdrawn from the Davis Cup this year. The first to announce this news was Andy Murray as he decided to withdraw from this year's Davis Cup and told the media that the British team would be better off without him in the team
The other player among the top ten to avoid the Davis cup this year is Spanish star Rafael Nadal. The former Davis Cup Champions would have to continue play for the Davis Cup without the World number one and will try to defeat France in their first encounter at Davis Cup this year. Nadal seems to have troublesome knees and has refused to play on physical grounds. Team Captain Albert Costa felt a little dejected with the news and told that the absence of Nadal in the Spanish team will be a definite setback. Costra has been trying to call David Ferrer, Feliciano Lopez and Verdasco for the Davis Cup tie. The Davis Cup will be starting form the 9th of july.
But on the positive side, Many top players are also keen on representing their country and make progress at the Davis Cup. One such respected palyer is Russian Nikolay Davydenko who has given confirmation that he will be playing the Davis Cup in the following week against Argentina. He missed the first tie of Russia against India, but will be there to represent his country to play and win against Argentina. Russia has met Argentina five times in the last eight years. Russia beat Argentina 3-2 at the same venue in the 2006 final to clinch their second Davis Cup title.
