Nadal advances into the semifinal in Indian Wells, Djokovic crashes
By KarenWalker (TennisEarth.com), Submitted On
Nadal prevailed against Isner in three sets and won the match with 7-5 3-6 6-3. There was very little to choose between the two as both of them served remarkably well throughout the match. But Nadal, with so much match experience behind him, earned the lone break in the third set and maintained it till the end to clinch the tie in his favour.
Nadal won the first set after setting up three set points for himself in the 12 game and expertly handed the final set by unleashing the tremendous power of his forehand drives.
Isner bounced back in the second set. He regrouped himself and levelled the set at 1-1 each. Isner's enviable ability to hit quick and wide aces created apparent problems for Rafa, who became animated on more than one occasion. In the final set, Nadal earned the lone break of serve at 3-1 and maintained it till the end to clinch victory.
Ivan Ljubicic of Croatia posted the upset of the day, as he registered a 7-5 6-3 victory over second-seed Novak Djokovic. In another match of the day, Juan Monaco of Argentina beat Spaniard Guillermo Garcia-Lopez 3-6 6-2 6-1.
