Andy Murray World No 4, became the first British winner in Rotterdam as he edged past injured Rafael Nadal 6-3, 4-6, 6-0 on sunday at the ABN Amro World Tennis Tournament.
In first set, Murray saved early break point and then rattled Nadal with penetrating ground strokes and booming serves. He broke Nadal in fifth game and raced to take one set lead.
Nadal suffered a injury in the first game of second set but he decided to continue. But then quite unexpectedly, both the players struggled to hold their serve and Nadal levelled the match at one set all.
Nadal hampered by the injury struggled to move on the court in the third set and Murray took full advantage of this.He kept the ball in play and won the set 6-0.
"Obviously it's not the way you want to win as I could see Rafa had an injury," said Murray.
"I thought the first set was good quality and then at the start of the second, when I saw that he was injured, my concentration and level of play dipped. He made it difficult as he was hitting the ball so hard and being aggressive on every shot to try and keep the points short. It just shows how he good he is that he can beat me on one leg!"
