Murray earns sportsperson of the year prize
Andy Murray was awarded the Stirling sportsperson of the year in due recognition of his recent triumphs.

Reigning US Open Champion and London Olympics gold medalist Andy Murray was named the Sportsperson of the Year at the Stirling Sports Awards. The honour duely recognised the feats achieved by the  25-year-old for Great Britain.

Murray had a dream season as he captured his first grand slam at the US Open, and also grabbed the gold at men’s singles event and silver medal at mixed doubles event at the London Olympics.

The Scot could not attend the glittering function due to training commitments in Miami. The British number one sent message to the organizers which said, “Hi everyone, I’m so sorry I can’t be with you tonight to collect my award, I’m about to embark on my training block in Miami, basically my pre-season ahead of the Australian Open and with Ivan at the helm, it won’t be pretty!”

Murray’s Gold Medal was Great Britain’s first in the last hundred years. The London resident also ended Britain’s wait for a men’s singles slam winner since 1936 when he defeated world number one Novak Djokovic to lift the US crown.
