World No 4 Andy Murray has decided to skip Britain’s Davis Cup relegation playoff against Turkey next month.
Murray, who also missed the tie against Lithuania in March, said "I've given a lot of reasons for not playing and I do think that it's time for us to start winning ties, having young players get used to winning,"
The 23-year-old said he has informed British team captain Leon Smith of his decision, while adding that he is not retiring from the competition.
"Obviously I am disappointed that (Murray) is not going to be part of the team, because he is one of the best players in the world," Smith said.
"But I accept his decision and I believe that we still have the players available to win this tie and to make the most of the opportunity."
England lost in March to Lithuania in Europe/Africa Zone Group II and loss to Turkey would send them into the competition’s bottom tier for the first time in the country’s history.
