US Open champion Andy Murray needed an hour and thirty two minutes to dispatch home favorite Paul Henry Mathieu, who was spurred on by the capacity crowd at the evening session. The Scot won the match 7-5,6-3 smashing 24 winners and 12 aces.
In a closely contested set, it was Andy who finally got the breakthrough to take the set. The Frenchman made a gallant effort that was in vain in the end. The set remained on serve till the deciding eleventh game where Murray broke to take the set. The Scot smashed 13 winners in that one.
The second set on the contrary turned out to be a walk in the park for the Scot. It started with an early break of serve and in a blink of an eye it was 4-1 to the Scot. After a brief fightback from the Frenchman, the Scot turned it on to take the set 6-3 in the end.
