In front of a roaring crowd and just as the clock struck 11’O Clock on Saturday, Andy Murray of Great Britain earned a hard-fought victory over tricky opponent Marcos Baghdatis of Cyprus with a 7-5 3-6 7-5 6-1 scoreline and secured his berth in the last sixteen of the 2012 Championships. This contest had everything a tennis lover could crave for – from high action, melorama to frequent changes in momentum.
Finally, the hope of Britain – Andy Murray survived a scare as he overcame a determined Marcos Baghdatis on Centre Court and did not disappoint his home fans. As expected, it was a thrilling contest . Murray thought he had done the job when he took the first set and then broke Baghdatis early on in the second set. The Cypriot however had other ideas, he fought back in the second set to break Murray twice and won the set 6-3. Play was then halted for a while as the roof was to come on, Baghdatis came out of the break firing on all cylinders and broke the Murray serve again. It all looked gloomy for the World No.4 and the English supporters. But as the saying goes, cometh the hour cometh the man! Murray fought back and broke the Baghdatis serve, not once but twice in the set to win it and with it moved 2 sets to 1 up.
The fourth set was a bit of an anticlimax as the Cyprian faded away and allowed the Scot to take the match in 3 hours and thirteen minutes. Murray arrowed 10 aces and smashed 31 winners en-route to his victory.
