Kevin Anderson began the 2013 season on a positive note, with an impressive performance at the Sydney International where the South African reached the final before going down in three sets to Australian Bernard Tomic.
The 26-year-old, however, could not make it into any other final round of the other ATP events that followed his strong run at Sydney. Last month, at the Indian Wells Anderson did managed to turn heads when he defeated the fourth-seeded David Ferrer though the South African failed to go beyond the quarter-finals where he lost to Tomas Berdych. However, the whole season as of now has been fairly good for Anderson who reached the fourth round at the Australian Open in January, which was his personal best at any Major event.
Anderson is now all set to begin his campaign at the Monte Carlo Masters when he takes on Polish youngster Jerzy Janowicz in the opening round of the clay-court event. The duo has never played against one another in their professional career but will be eager and confident to take on one another for the first time.
As for Janowicz, the 24-year-old has not experienced much success. The Pole who is yet to win an ATP title started the year at the Heineken Open where he lost in the very opening round match. Janowicz then competed at the Australian Open as a seeded player which was also his first time in his career.
Nevertheless, both players have real opportunity to improve and learn some experience at the Monte Carlo Masters and also has the chances to collect some points that will eventually help them to improve their rankings.
Pick: Anderson in two!
