Fourth seed Juan Monaco of Argentina looked impressive in his 6-3 6-2 win over Josselin Ouanna of France to advance into the second round of the Grand Prix de Tennis de Lyon on Monday.
Other winners of the day were, Julian Benneteau of France who knocked out Alberto Martin of Spain 7-6(1) 6-1, while another Frenchmen eased past Christophe Rochus of Belgium 6-3 6-3.
Benneteau will next play the winner of match between compatriot Fabrice Santoro and Spaniard Albert Montanes.
“It would be great if I could go all the way and win my first title here,” said Benneteau. “I’m not the favorite, there are other players who are stronger. I wasn’t too far off last year.”
