Indian sensation Sania Mirza beat  Viktoriya Kutuzova of Ukraine 6-4 6-3 in straight sets to advance into the quarterfinals of the Japan Open on Wednesday.

Mirza will next play second seeded Marion Bartoli of France , who was the champion here in 2006.

Bartoli, fighting for the last available spot in the season-ending Sony Ericsson Championships - Doha 2009, eased past  Japanese wild card Kurumi Nara 6-1, 6-1 in just 61 minutes.

In the remaining matches of the day, fourth seeded  fourth seed Francesca Schiavone of Italy prevailed  6-3 0-6 6-3 against  Chan Yung-jan of Taiwan , while seventh seed Melinda Czink of Hungary ousted Vania King of the United States 6-4 6-2.
