Austrian star Jurgen Melzer looked in supreme form during the second round matches held at the 2010 German Open in Hamburg on Wednesday when he overpowered Argentine Eduardo Schwank 6-4, 6-1 to reach the last 16 of the ATP World Tour 500 event.
Meanwhile, Seventh seeded Brazilian Thomaz Bellucci survived mid match jitters to beat Italian qualifier Simone Bolelli 6-1, 3-6, 6-3 for a place in the pre-quarterfinals of the event. He was later joined by Uzbek Denis Istomin, who caused the biggest upset of the day by eliminating fifth seed and Bastad winner Nicolas Almagro in two tie-break sets, winning 7-6(5), 7-6(7) in almost two hours of play.
In another interesting match from the day, Home favourite Philipp Kohlschreiber came back from a set deficit to beat Argentine Juan Ignacio Chela 2-6, 6-2, 6-4.
However, the other seeds in action weren't as lucky with No.8 and Stuttgart champion Albert Montanes, No.12 Victor Hanescu and No.13 Philipp Petzschner , all bowing out of the event rather unceremoniously.
No.16 Michael Berrer also lost his second round match to Italian Andreas Seppi with a 6-2, 7-6(4) scoreline.
