Unseeded Andreas Seppi won a marathon match against the crushing favourite and seventh seed Thomaz Bellucci of Brazil with a 7-6(0) 5-7 7-5 scoreline in three hours and 12 minutes. Bellucci fired 10 aces to book his berth in the semi-final of the German Open Tennis Championships, being played here at Hamburg. This is the second-time that Seppi has reached the Hamburg semi-finals.
In the second-quarterfinal match, Austrian and third-seeded Jurgen Melzer cruised into the semi-final after easily defeating the Italina Potito Starace of Italy with a 6-4 6-1 scoreline in 69 minutes. Melzer hit eight aces and dropped 10 points on serve to earn his 15th clay-court win this season.
In his next match, Andreas Seppi will meet Melzer. Seppi leads Melzer 2-1 in their career series.
