Maria Sharapova aims at winning the only Grand Slam to complete a career Grand Slam. She faces Ayumi Morita of Japan in the second round of the French Open.
Sharapova is gunning for her third title this year and for her maiden Roland Garros title. Her ranking is at No.2 presently and she would be aiming to reclaim her No.1 ranking. She has had a good year so far and has reached the business end of most of the tournaments she has played, her win-loss record of 29-5 says it all. Coming into the French Open, she must be full of confidence after winning the Rome Masters. She had a perfect start to this year's French Open after she defeated her opponent without losing even 1 game!
Morita on the other hand, has a win-loss record of 11-12 in 2012 and she would be looking to make it better. Presently ranked at 84 in the World, Morita still has to win a title on the WTA Tour and she would be hoping she can do it this year. She has a big task in hand when she faces Sharapova today, but she would have gained some confidence after three set victory in the previous round.
This is the first meeting between the two and Sharapova looks to be the heavy favorite going into this match.
