American Mardy Fish, who won the Atlanta Open last week, has withdrawn from this week’s LA Open due to fatigue and an ankle injury.
Fish said, “due to fatigue and a sprained ankle in Atlanta, I am not in good shape to play. I need to rest in order to compete at a high level.”
Fish won his 2nd successive ATP World Tour title, and the fifth of his career, at the Atlanta Tennis Championships on Sunday by defeating his compatriot John Isner with a 4-6 6-4 7-6 scoreline. With that victory, Fish extended his winning streak to 10 matches with an overall record of 28-11 this season.
On his recent performance, Fish quoted, “I’ve never won two tournaments in one year, I’ve never won two tournaments in a row and on the ATP tour I’ve never won 10 matches in a row. This is probably as good as it has been.”
