Second-seeded Feliciano Lopez of Spain dismissed Sergiy Stakhovsky challenge 6-4, 7-6(4) to reach the quarter-finals of 2012 BMW Open on Friday.
Lopez will next face fifth seed Bernard Tomic of Australia, who rallied past Italian Potito Starace 6-1, 6-7(4), 6-3.
"I played very well in the first set and had chances to be up early in that second set," said Tomic. "I think that could have made a difference to not play three sets. He started playing good in the third and I was down a break, so it was good for me to get back and I played well in the end."
In other matches of the day, fourth seeded and 2007 champion Philipp Kohlschreiber defeated Ernests Gulbis 7-5, 6-3 and another Australian Marinko Matosevic defeated Colombia’s Robert Farah 6-1, 6-7(2), 6-2.
