Top-seeded Sabine Lisicki of Germany suffered a shocking defeat in the opening round of the 2012 Internationaux de Strasbourg on Monday. Lisicki had to miss-out most of the clay court season due to an ankle injury. She was making this comeback on red-soil to get substantial match practise before going into action at Roland Garros. But, her preparations were hit by Pauline Parmentier, who beat the top-seeded German in straight sets with a 6-4 6-4 scoreline win on Monday.
In the next round, Frenchwoman Parmentier will take on her compatriot Stéphanie Foretz Gacon."I'm very happy," Parmentier said after the match. "I played really well today and was really focused on my game. I played solid and was moving well from the start."
On the other hand, Foretz Gacon earned a straight sets 6-4 6-0 victory over Elena Baltacha on Monday to secure her berth in the last sixteen. On the other hand, No.8 seed Tamira Paszek also won her match in a marathon. Paszek beat Alberta Brianti 6-4 0-6 6-4. On the other hand, Hsieh Su-Wei beat Irina-Camelia Begu 6-7(5) 6-3 6-1.
After the match Paszek said, "It's great to be through to the second round. I played really well in the first and third sets, but I've had a lot of injuries this year I'm still looking for that consistency and some rhythm for the French Open next week."
