Federer - Hajek   6 - 4   6 - 3    Four time champion and top seed Roger Federer has made it to the quarterfinals of the German Open Tennis Championships in Hamburg as he outclassed the Czech Jan Hajek in 72 minutes. The Swiss who initially was struggling to find his groove began to mesmerize the crowd with some stunning winners from the back of the court at the business end of the opening set. And once he stole that set on his 5th set point, he started to dominate the proceedings and displayed his class in the ensuing set as there were many Federerized moments. The World No.5 won 70% of the points on his first serve, fired 7 aces, saved 3 out of 4 break points and collected a total of 72 points to fix up his spot in the last 8 of the competition.  5 - 3    Hajek further extends the match as he holds his serve after saving 5 match points to force Federer to come out and serve out the match at 5-3 in the second set.
5 - 2    Federer confirms the break as he leads 5-2 in the second, forcing Hajek to come out and serve to stay in the match. 4 - 2    Federer breaks! The Swiss was on his toes in this game and made the most of a sloppy Hajek. 4-2 for Federer as he looks to consolidate the break.
3 - 2    Some big serving from the former champion sees him keep his nose ahead in the second set at 3-2. Federer looks to get the break and makes things tougher for Hajek. 2 - 2    Hajek holds his serve to get things at par at 2 a piece in the second set. Federer missed a couple of returns at 30-30 in this game to give away Hajek a rather easy service hold after having a semi-chance to break.
2 - 1    Federer holds his serve from a tough situation to keep himself ahead in the second set. Hajek does the chase work still as he trails 1-2 with the set going on serve. 1 - 1    Hajek holds his serve to get on the scoreboard in the second set. With both players holding serves without much trouble, it seems like this set too will be a tricky one.
1 - 0    Federer holds his serve to starts the second set to keep the momentum going. Federer leads 1-0 in the second set after taking the first 6-4.
Federer - Hajek   6 - 4    In 39 minutes, Federer takes the opening set after breaking the Hajek serve in the tenth game. Though it was not a set of the highest qualities, it was the Swiss who played some the crucial points well and got the rewards. With 3 aces and some well struck winners, Federer did not give Hajek any chance to dictate play. Hajek played the some games very well and even broke the Federer serve once in the set to give the Swiss and the crowd some tensed moments.  5 - 4    A love service hold for Federer courtesy a couple of aces and couple of unreturnable serves. 5-4 to Federer as Hajek comes out to serve to stay in the opening set.
4 - 4    A tight service hold for Hajek as he squares things up in the first set. 4 games all in the first with everything to play for. 4 - 3    Federer bails himself out of trouble in this game as he saves a couple of break points to take the all important seventh game and keep the lead at 4-3 in the first set.
3 - 3    Though in a tricky situation, Hajek holds his serve to level things at 3-3 in the first set. Federer had a chance at 30-30 but failed to put pressure on Hajek, who served well to dictate play from the back. 3 - 2    Well well well! Hajek breaks back immediately courtesy the net cord! The set comes back on serve with Federer leading 3-2 in the first set.
3 - 1    Federer breaks! The Swiss finds his range on his ground strokes and makes his move in the second Hajek service game. 3-1 in favor of the Swiss with Federer up by a break. 2 - 1    Federer holds his serve to lead 2-1 in the first set. The Swiss served very well and did not give the Czech any chance in his service game.
1 - 1    Hajek responds very well as he opens his account in the match after a comfortable service hold. Federer was a touch rusty in this game and gave away a few points freely to the Czech. 1 - 0    Not a comfortable hold for Federer as he holds his serve after saving a break point in the very first service game. The Swiss leads 1-0 in the first set with Hajek doing the chase work.
