Kvitova ousts Zvonareva in Italian Open
Petra Kvitova of the Czech Republic caused the first big upset of the Italian Open by defeating 15th-seeded Vera Zvonareva 6-4 6-0 in the Italian Open Opener, on Sunday.

 

Petra Kvitova played some exciting strokes on both sides of the court to humble 15th-seeded Vera Zvonareva 6-4 6-0 in the opening round of the Italian Open. 

No. 14 Russian Nadia Petrova beat Tathiana Garbin of Italy, 6-3 6-2.

Other winners of the day were: Maria Kirilenko, Andrea Petkovic, Maria Jose Martinez Sanchez, Alberta Brianti and Polona Hercog.

The top eight seeds in this clay-court warmup for the French Open have first-round byes.
