Kuznetsova kept the match proceedings simple and well in control to register an easy victory over the Latvian Anastasija Sevastova in straight sets with a 6-2 6-3 scoreline. With this, former US open champion reached the third round of this year’s final Grand Slam, being played here at the Flushing Meadows.
Kuznetsova started off on a shaky note and got herself broken in the third game of the match, but the Russian break back in the very next game and equalized the scores. Then, the Russian earned the break in the sixth and eighth games of the first set and wrapped it up with a 6-2 score.

In the second set, Kuznetsova earned the coveted break in the third game and maintained that lead till the end and win the match to make her way to the third-round of the US Open.
Kuznetsova played blistering strokes on both sides of the court and did not allow Sevastova to make a comeback at any juncture of the match.
