This was the first time that Vania King of the United States and Yaroslava Shvedova of Kazakhstan got the opportunity to play inside Centre Court and they made the most of this by winning the women’s doubles final, here at Wimbledon on Saturday.
The fifth unseeded team of Vania King and Yaroslava Shvedova defeated singles runner-up Vera Zvonareva and Elena Vesnina of Russia with a 7-6 (6) 6-2 scoreline.
After the match, King said, “I’m sure for both of us, it really hasn’t gotten in our heads that we just won Wimbledon. But maybe tomorrow or maybe next week. So, yeah, I think, I mean, right now, I don’t know what to say.” This is the first time since 1975 that two unseeded pairs competed in the Wimbledon final.
