German Angelique Kerber overplayed Ekaterina Makarova in straight sets 6-2, 6-4 in just over an hour to book a place in the penultimate round at the Aegon International. Kerber played some flawless tennis as she won her first match against her Russian counterpart in three attempts.
Kerber took the first set with ease after playing some stunning tennis. Kerber had a first serve percentage of 70 and arrowed an ace in the set. She dominated the set from the word go as she she did not let Makarova any time or chance to fight back.
With the rain playing spoil sport in the middle of the second set, it was Kerber who was up 3-1 with a break before play resumed and Kerber then served out the match in style after being tested in all her service games.
The way she is playing, she is really looking strong and a front runner for the title.
