Henin had an amazing comeback season as she reached the Australian Open final which was only her second event after 18 months of retirement. Henin was getting back her vintage flow as she played well at Roland Garros and she defeated the focused Russian Maria Sharapova. She then ventured into Wimbledon, her third major event participation after the retirement break where she had successfully reached the fourth round before losing to Clijsters.
Henin lost her footing during the first set against Clijsters. She then took treatment from the doctors and went on to play and win the first set but was then outplayed by Clijsters in the next two sets. Henin played a wonderful game in the whole match with constant stretches of her elbow but never reacted in a drastic way. No one had any clue that the injury would take such a nasty turn after the match. Henin's words on the injury were a honest opinion, "Of course, it was not mentally not easy to deal with it when I fell down, but after that, it was warm and I could play. I don't really know how it affected it."
A disappointed Henin told the media that she would not be playing the US Open this year. Henin said, “Following my fall at Wimbledon, I took several medical examinations that have revealed a partial ligament fracture of the right elbow. This injury will keep me away from the courts for a rough period of two months, with the consequence that I have withdrawn from the US Open. In four weeks I'll take complimentary medical examinations that will give me certainty about the rest of the season."
Henin had completed only 6months on the proffestional tour after the 1 and a half year retirement. It was a pityful sight to see the Belgian struggle with her injured elbow during the match. The 28-year old then confirmed that she will not be performing at the US Open and on tour for the next two months. Henin will be going back to Belgium to recollect and recover from her injury. She would also need to practice and sharpen her game to the highest standards yet again before viewing a return back on the tour somewhere during September.
