Melzer has been consistent with his performances this year but has not been able to snatch a title. The Austrian started off with a quarterfinal spot in Marseille and then entered the semi-finals of the ATP 1000 event in Monte Carlo after which he went on the march into Barcelona and Hamburg. He then displayed top form to snatch quarterfinal spots in Kuala Lumpur and in Vienna recently. He will be trying his best to the take victories in her stride to improve his ATP ranking.
Young has been one of best budding American talents on the ATP tour. He had a productive US season too as he made it to the semi-finals in Washington and then went ahead to grab a place in the finals in Bangkok where he lost to Andy Murray. He then lost in the fourth round after qualifying at the ATP 1000 event which was held in Shanghai. Young will be hopeful for a few victories in order to kick in to the top 30 early next year.
Both the players have met three times earlier and the head-to-head stands at 2-1 in Melzer’s favour. The last time they played was this year in Washington and Melzer had retired from the third set due to an injury. Melzer has an aggressive serve and can club them well with crafty backhands. Young can cover court with commendable speeds and can direct forehands at corners of the court. Melzer should be able to win in two tough sets.
