Argentine Juan Monaco was the first semifinalist at the German Open Tennis Championship after a convincing performance against Jeremny Chardy of France. Monaco wrapped the match in 1 hour and 36 minutes with a 6-3, 7-5 scoreline.
Monaco broke the Chardy thrice in the first set to wrap it in 40 minutes. After a sloppy start to the match, Monaco raised his game to just breeze past the remaining set, courtesy some rather easy games. Chardy struggled throughout the set with his serve and it broke down at wrong time, giving the set to Monaco on a break.
The second set was a much closer affair after Monaco lead 4-1 in the set and let that lead slip away with Chardy trying to get back into the match. Both servers struggled in the latter part of the set and Monaco saved a very important break point in the eleventh game to set up the next break that ended the match in his favor.
He next awaits the winner of Nicolas Almagro and Philipp Kohlschreiber.
