Argentine Juan Martin del Potro starts his title defense at 2012 Estoril Open against Portugese No 1 Rui Machado.

Defending champion and top seeded Juan Martin del Potro takes on Portugese Rui Machado for a place in the quarter-finals of 2012 Estoril Open.

Argentine star Juan Martin Del Potro is waiting for his second breakthrough on tour which will bring him back to the ATP elite and it seems the wait is already long enough since his first massive triumph in New York, back in 2009 when he beat Roger federer to claim the US Open.

Del Potro has managed to maintain a consistent performance since the start of 2012 and is currently placed at No.12 in ATP rankings. Del Potro has 10 career singles titles to his name and his latest win came this year in Marseille.

His opponent - Machado is 3-5 lifetime in Estoril and his best result was the quarter-finals appearance in 2010 . Machado has poor 0-10 win loss record this year and still searching for his first win on ATP tour this season.

This will be the first meeting between the two players and Del Potro is a crushing favourite in the clash.
