Fourth seeded Frenchman Jo-Wilfried Tsonga will face unseeded Marcos Baghdatis of Cyprus in his first round match at Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships, an ATP 500 event being played at Dubai, UAE.
The Frenchman opened the new season with a title haul at the Qatar ExxonMobil Open in Doha, where he beat his compatriot Gael Monfils in the final. He then reached the pre-quarterfinals of the Australian Open.
Last week at Marseille, he looked in brilliant form as he reached the semis where he lost to eventual champion Juan Martin del Potro in a thrilling contest. Tsonga has an 11-2 win-loss record this season so far.
His opponent- Marcos Baghdatis, currently ranked No 46 in the rankings, has no ATP title to his name this season. He has 12-5 win-loss record this year.
Baghdatis caught the headlines during Australian Open in his second-round match as he broke four of his tennis racquets to vent frustration. It came as a surprise for many, as Baghdatis is known for his flamboyant nature but that time he went overboard and also got fined for his behaviour.
Both the players have met once before in 2011 at Rome Masters, where Tsonga won 6-3, 6-2.
TennisEarth Pick: Tsonga to win in straight sets.
