Jie Zheng withdraws from Australian Open 2011
Top Chinese women tennis player, Jie Zheng will not take part in the 2011 Australian Open due to a wrist injury.

NEW YORK - SEPTEMBER 01: Jie Zheng of China wipes his face against Ana Ivanovic of Serbia during day three of the 2010 U.S. Open at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center on September 1, 2010 in the Flushing neighborhood of the Queens borough of New York City. World No. 26 Zheng Jie, who garnered huge attention during the 2010 Australian Open, when she reached the semifinal, is not going to participate in the next year’s first Grand Slam – due to a wrist injury.

Jie sustained the injury during the US Open and it further got worse, as she continued playing in doubles. Though, she made it to semis in US Open in doubles, but her wrist injury was getting worse with each passing day. After US Open, Jie could not continue, as she had to go for the wrist surgery.

Obviously, Jie’s ranking will drop after the Australian Open, as she would lose the points, earned by reaching the semi-final, here in Melbourne.
