Lucky Loser Jeremy Chardy of France was indeed lucky when he overcame 2 time Cincinnati champion Andy Roddick in straight sets 7-6(4), 6-3 in an hour and 32 minutes to progress into the second round of the Cincinnati Masters. Chardy really played some fascinating tennis to outperform Roddick, who got injured in the middle of the second set.
Chardy took the first set after some really high quality of tennis. With both players holding serve till the first set end, it was Chardy who reached another level in the tie-break to take the first set 7-6(4). The lucky loser is making the most out of the opportunity given to him as Roddick looks to get the match into a third set.
The second set was a rather one sided one with Chardy getting a break in the beginning of the set. HE kept going for his shots and they all paid off. With a back injury making things worse for Roddick, Chardy was smart enough to capitalize on this handicap and made Roddick move corner to corner. Roddick seemed disinterested after this injury and finished the match for the sake of sportsmanship.
With 27 winners and 7 aces, Chardy broke the Roddick twice in the second set and the match and also won 85% points on his first serve, showing how effective it was when it fell in.
