Lucky loser got luckier as Jeremy Chardy of France caused the biggest upset of the tournament so far after he defeated defending champion Andy Murray in straight sets 6-4, 6-4 in an hour and 37 minutes to move into the last 8 of the Cincinnati Masters.
Chardy played some flawless tennis during the entire course of the match and was rewarded with the match win.
Chardy won the first set after displaying some really high quality tennis. He wrapped the first set in 39 minutes, courtesy some fine hitting. He got the all important break in the seventh game of the set and that proved to be decisive as he served out the set successfully with a rather hapless Murray looking on. Chardy had the upper hand in the entire set and he kept going for his strokes to unsettle Murray.
The second set was a different story all together with both the players exchanging early breaks till Chardy consolidated the break first and kept the pressure on to successfully serve the match out courtesy the 27 winners he hit along with 4 breaks of serve. Chardy really mixed his game well and was very successful at the net. His 19 out of 23 net points won indicated how well Chardy was at the net.
