Jelena Jankovic Vs Simona Halep: Australian Open Round 4 Preview
With a place in the Quarterfinals of the Australian Open at stake, former World No.1 Jelena Jankovic clashes with Simona Halep in the Fourth Round of the First Major of the Year. With both players coming into this match with impressive straight sets victories, this match surely promises to be an enticing one!

As we reach the business end of the First Major of 2014, encounters will surely heat up and the Fourth Round clash between Jelena Jankovic and Simona Halep promises to be one enticing match! The Serb and the Romanian have been the dark horses at this Event and the way they have been playing here, it seems like this match will be played at the highest quality.

Entering the Australian Open as a favorite to reach the business end, Jankovic lost her way through 2011 and 2012 and even though 2013 stared on a decent note, her results and performances in the last 3 to 4 months were spectacular as a result of which she cracked the Top-10. The Serb not only broke through the Top-10 but also managed qualifying for the Season Ending Championships last year where she qualified from her Group, losing to American Serena Williams in the Knock Out Stage.

Possessing one of the most dictating and threatening backhands on the WTA Tour, the Serb comes into the Australian Open ranked at No.8 in the World and would be gunning to maintain that ranking throughout the season to feature at the Season Ending Championships again. With 13 WTA Tour Titles to her, Jankovic is a bit erratic with her level of tennis and would be focusing on maintaining the high standards she has set for herself of late.

Her opponent, Halep was awarded the Most Improved Player last year (truly deserved) after she managed lifting an astounding 6 WTA Tour Titles last year. Her amazing runs at various tournaments last year saw her reach from just inside the Top-50 (47) to just outside the Top-10 (11). Almost knocking at the Top-10 door, Halep has displayed both aggressive and defensive abilities in Melbourne so far.

Primarily a counter puncher who is not shy of taking the initiative during rallies, the No.1 Romanian has the ability to insert pace suddenly in rallies. Forcing errors out of her opponent, Halep would be gunning to cause an upset here by defeating Jankovic.

Head to head: This is the Fourth Time the two players would be facing each other with Halep leading their head to head 2-1. They last met in Rome last year with the Romanian winning that match in Three Sets.
