The German Veteran, Rainer Schuettler shows no signs of giving up as he goes on to start his normal profesional season on grass with a straight set win over Golubev in the first round of the Aegon International. Scheuttler although an experienced and accomplished player is not seeded among the top eight keeping in mind his performances this year. Rainer is ranked at world number 72 among the ATP rankings. Ward on the other hand has just started off his international career as compared to Schuettler and is ranked as low as 342 in the world. Lopez retired due to an injury in the first round and Ward will therefore be playing the German in the second round.
Schuettler has been showing a lot of fluctuations in his matchplay as his rankings have dropped in the past few months . This tournament remains vital for him to improve his flow and self confidence. Schuettler has a win/loss record this year which stands at 5/8. Compared with Ward who has a win/loss record of 1/3. This is the first time that they will be playing against each other.
Rainer Schuettler has one of the best single handed backhands in the game and an aggressive forehand to support it. Moreover Schuettler is known for his court coverge and stroke making capabilities. He is surely expected to put some extreme effort into this match also. Ward has seems to be in good touch as he played efficiently to take the first set against Lopez in the first round. It could be either of the two who will emerge as a winner of this second round match up.
