Former World No 1 Ana Ivanovic of Serbia defeated Russian Valeria Solovieva with 6-1, 6-4 scoreline in the pre-quarterfinal match of the 2012 Kremlin Cup on Thursday.
Ivanovic stepped on the pedal from the word 'go' and raced to 5-0 lead in the first set before Solovieva held her serve for the first time in the opening set. The Serbian successfully served out for the set with 6-1 scoreline in the next game.

In the second set, Ivanovic secured a lone break at 4-3 and kept it till the end to close the match in straight sets. The Serbian fired 5 aces and won 83% points on her first serve in.
Ivanovic will next face either countrywoman Vesna Dolonc or Romanian Simona Halep in the quarterfinals.
