World number one Serena Williams will be forced to sit on the sidelines for atleast four weeks because of injury she picked up at a restaurant after she stepped on broken glass.
Williams need surgery on her right foot and will skip Istanbul, Cincinnati and Montreal.
"I'm so upset I won't be able to play in the upcoming events because of this foot surgery," Williams left a message on WTA website.
"Thank you for all of your support. I can't wait to get back on the courts."
The US Open, which Williams won in 1999, 2002 and 2008, gets under way on August 30 in New York, just a week after the Montreal event finishes.

Bit unfortunate, but it would give enough time to Serena to recuperate before the final Grand Slam of this year.

That is very unfortunate. My sympathy goes with Serena. She must be devastated!
