Daniela Hantuchova had a great start to her campaign at the US Open. Hantuchova had a tough match against Dinara Safina and managed to come through in two tightly fought sets with a scoreline of 6-3, 6-4. Safina led a close head-to-head record by 6-3 before coming into this match. The big Russian, currently ranked 50th held her nerve and quality of matchplay even after trailing at one break down. Safina came back to level the second set at 3-3 but then faded away and ended up losing the second set
Hantuchova took the serve and managed to take serve. Hantuchova lost track in between and takes the right the serve. Hantuchova managed to hold serve every game. Safina tried to hold serve and took the second set till 3-3 but then fumbled as she started to misfire strokes on almost every point. Hantuchova came up with 24 winners and 56% first serves to win the match in straight sets 6-3, 6-4 to proceed further in the tournament.
During the match, Hantuchova recorded a win against the Russian Safina within two sets and proceeds further in the tournament. The former number one, Dinara Safina again experienced the first round loss and seems to be struggling with her comeback run.
