Former World No. 2 and wild card entrant Tommy Haas scored a upset win over top seed Jo-Wilfried Tsonga of France with 6-1, 6-4 scoreline in the second round of the BMW Open, Munich.
The German converted 3 out of 4 break point opportunities to score the win in just 59 minutes.
"It's great. I can't remember the last time I beat a Top 10 player," said Haas. " I took my chances when I had them and it feels great to have such a nice victory once again."
Haas will next face eighth seeded and twice semi-finalist Marcos Baghdatis, who bounced back from first set deficit to beat German qualifier Dustin Brown 1-6, 6-4, 6-4.
Third seed Marin Cilic eased past Germany’s Matthias Bachinger 6-3, 6-2 to set up next round clash with Russian Mikhail Youzhny, who struggled past Santiago Giraldo 6-7(2), 6-4, 6-4.
Youzhny, who won the title here in 2010, fired 13 aces and survived all five break points he faced.
