Chilean Fernando Gonzalez claimed his fourth Vina Del Mar title with a win over Argentine Jose Acasuso 6-1, 6-3 in just 55 minutes. The 28-year-old won his 11th ATP World Tour title in as many as 22 final appearances. Sunday's victory earned him 250 South African Airways ATP Rankings points and the winner's cheque of $ 81,500. The title adds to Gonzalez's collection of trophies from the years - 2002, 2004 and 2008.
"Every player dreams to win a title in his home country in front of his crowd. I'm happy to have done it four times and I can only hope this wasn't the last time," beamed Gonzalez, who has a 29-5 record through nine event appearances at the Movistar Open. "It is always fantastic to feel the energy from the crowd. That's nothing better than this."
Ironically though, the finalist Jose Acasuso, won the last ATP World Tour title here in Vina Del Mar, back in 2006. "I'm a bit upset for not playing as good as I wanted," said Acasuso. "Fernando had a great week and deserved to win the title. Even though I still feel I had a good week."
The Chilean will make a progress of three spots and will move to No.15 in the latest South African Airways ATP Rankings, that release on Monday.
