Andrey Golubev easily defeated the erratic Florian Mayer in straight sets with a 7-6(6) 6-4 scoreline and reached the German Open final. In the final, Golubev will meet the third-seeded Austrian Jurgen Melzer who defeated the Italian Andreas Seppi with a 6-4 6-2 and booked his berth in the final.
In-form Andrey Golubev took one hour and 42 minutes to reach the second ATP World Tour final of his career. Golubev made the most of the given opportunities and converted two of the nine break points to defeat the home-favourite Florian Mayer.

Currently, Golubev is ranked 82 in ATP rankings. He had only won eight tour-level matches before reaching the final here in Hamburg, Germany. In his quarterfinal match, Golubev surprised many by defeating the defending champion Nikolay Davydenko. He has not dropped a set in the tournament so far.
This is the first time in two years that Golubev has reached the final of any tournament.
