American John Isner is known for his serve and that serve is something to be reckoned with. Today at the Rexall Center in Toronto, the American continued to serve well, but was found wanting on the return of serve as Frenchman Richard Gasquet claimed victory in two sets in an hour and twenty minutes, smashing 17 winners. Gasquet won the match 7-6,6-3, without facing a break point on serve.
In a hard fought first set, it was Richard Gasquet comes out on top. He was also the only player to see a break point point opportunity in the set. On the return, the American was listless and he would really need to step it up there if he is to make any inroads. In a match with Isner in it a tie break is a commonality, but he is generally the one who comes out on top. This time though he couldn't as the deserving Frenchman took the set.

The second set started off in familiar fashion with both player looking immaculate on serve. The mediocre Gasquet serve was being made to look like the Roddick serve, as Isner's incompetence on return continued to haunt him through the match. In the sixth game of the set, the Frenchman got the all important breakthrough, and then built on it to take the set 6-3.
