Currently ranked as World No. 80 in the ATP Rankings, Guillermo Garcia-Lopez of Spain earned a straight sets victory over 2007 champion Paul-Henri Mathieu of France with a 6-4, 6-2 scoreline and advanced into the quarterfinals of the 2012 Grand Prix Hassan II in Casablanca on Wednesday.
On the other hand, second-seeded Alexandr Dolgopolov of Ukraine fell to Italian Flavio Cipolla 6-4, 6-1 in just 62 minutes. Dolgopolov was joined by Denis Istomin of Kazakhstan. Fourth-seeded Istomin was stunned by the Russian Igor Andreev, who rallied from a set down to beat the Kazak in three sets with a 6-7(3), 6-3, 6-2 scoreline. Andreev converted 4 out of 10 break points to beat Istomin.
After the match Andreev quoted, “It was a difficult match in difficult conditions. He further added that, “I'm happy that I managed to win and qualify for the quarter-finals. This is a good event for me. I only played here once before and reached the semi-final back in 2009. Denis has been playing very well lately and this win gives me a lot of confidence.”
In the next encounter, the 85th-ranked Cipolla will take on 102nd-ranked Frenchman Benoit Paire, who rallied past German Matthias Bachinger 6-7(3), 6-3, 6-2 in two hours and 34 minutes.
