World No 2 Maria Sharapova thrashed Japanese Ayumi Morita with 6-1, 6-1 scoreline to reach the fourth round of French Open 2012.

Sharapova secured a early break at 3-1 in the opening set of the match and for the second time at 5-1 to wrap the set 6-1 in her favour. In the second set as well, the Russian continued to dictate the things in the middle and won the set with the same scoreline as of first set.

Sharapova arrowed 2 aces and placed 22 winners to get the job done in straight sets.

Sharapova will next face Chinese Shuai Peng for a place in the quarter-finals.

In another match of the day, former French Open champion Svetlana Kuznetsova downed Agnieszka Radwanska with 6-1, 6-2 scoreline.
