Reigning champion Li Na of China bounced back from first set loss to beat talented American Christina Mchale with 3-6, 6-2, 6-1 scoreline to advance into the pre-quarterfinals of 2012 French Open.

Both players displayed gritty tennis in the first set, before they traded a single break between themselves in the middle of the set. The American broke Li Na for the second time at 5-3 and then successfully served out one set lead in the match.

In the second set, Na li bounced back strongly as she broke Mchale twice to take the match into the deciding set. The Chinese player struck early at 3-1 in the deciding set and then reeled off next three games to win the match.

She next faces  Yaroslava Shvedova, who defeated Carla Suareznavarro 6-4, 7-5 in straight sets earlier in the day.
