World no. 35 Llodra handed over a second shocking defeat of the day to Spain in the second quarterfinal match of the Davis Cup by defeating the world no. 10 Fernando Verdasco with a 7-6(5) 6-4 6-3 7-6(2) scoreline. Llodra came back from a set down in the match and earned a relatively easy victory in three hours and 25 minutes. Both Gael Monfils and Michael Llodra won their respective matches and gave France a commanding 2-0 lead over Spain in the quarterfinal matches, being played here in Clermont-Ferrand, France.
After losing the first set in a tie-break, Llodra bounced back brilliantly and won the next two sets. Verdasco fought well till the end but could not maintain the momentum in the key moments of the match and finally lost to Llodra in four sets.

After the match, Llodra said, “anything can happen in Davis Cup. Today it was a good atmosphere on the court and I wanted to play my best tennis. It was perfect. I knew before the match that, on this surface, if I played aggressive then Fernando might miss some shots.
