Top-seeded American Mardy Fish downed Ricardas Berankis 6-3, 6-1 in the pre-quarterfinal clash of Citi Open on Thursday. Fish converted four of his five break points and saved two on his serve.
The American will next play Belgian Xavier Malisse, who defeated Frenchman Jeremy Chardy 6-3, 6-2.
Sam Querrey of America, who won the Los Angeles title last week, defeated German Benjamin Becker 6-4, 6-3 to reach the quarter-final.
“I feel really good. I’ve won six matches in a row, so anytime you can do that, you’re feeling good,” said Querrey. “Anytime you win a tournament, you’re feeling good, and I played great last week and so far it’s continued over to this week.”
Querrey next faces third seeded South African and doubles partner Kevin Anderson, who scored a 6-4, 6-4 victory over French qualifier Florent Serra.
