Former World No. 1 Juan Carlos Ferrero of Spain defeated South Africa’s Kevin Anderson 6-4, 7-5 in the first round of the Internazionali BNL d’Italia, Rome on Sunday. 
Ferrero, who won the title in 2001, saved seven of eight break points to post the victory in straight sets.
In hugely anticipated match, Milos Raonic Of Canada was beaten by German Florian Mayer 7-6(5), 6-4.
Also, Mikhail Youzhny of Russia rallied past Brazil’s Thomaz Bellucci 6-2, 3-6, 6-3 and Serbia’s Viktor Troicki ousted Italian wild card Filippo Volandri 4-6, 6-4, 6-3.
Another Italian Paolo Lorenzi, a wild card entrant, posted the upset of the day as he defeated Nikolay Davydenko of Russia 6-3, 2-6, 6-3 in two hours and six minutes.
