Former World No 1 Juan Carlos Ferrero has been named as the first substitute for the defending champion Spanish squad, who face Czech Republic in upcoming Davis Cup final tie.

Former World No 1 Juan Carlos Ferrero has been named as the first substitute for the defending champion Spanish squad, who face Czech Republic in upcoming Davis Cup final tie.

Spain captain Albert Costa said "Ferrero's experience provides an addition that is very important for the team."

Ferrero boasts of an impressive 17-7 record in the Davis Cup play and has played an important role in Spain’s 2000 and 2004 victory march.

Ferrero won all his singles matches in Spain's quarterfinal and semifinal victories and will join Rafael Nadal, David Ferrer, Fernando Verdasco and Feliciano Lopez in the squad for the Dec. 4-6 best-of-five tie.

This year, Davis cup final will be played on indoor clay at Barcelona’s Palau Sant Jordi.
