Ferrero, Andreev reach quarter- finals at the Brasil Open

Juan Carlos Ferrero of Spain defeated Chilean Nicolas Massu to reach the quarter-finals at Costa Do Sauipe with a 6-2 5-7 6-2 scoreline. Ferrero earned the important break points in the fifth game of the third set to defeat Chilean Nicolas Massu in a match that lasted for two hours, 24 minutes.
In another match, fourth-seeded Russian Igor Andreev earned a berth in the quarter-finals after defeating Portuguese qualifier Rui Machado 6-3 5-7 6-4. Andreev ran out of luck in his previous two appearances at the Brasil Open, as he could not move beyond the first-round, but this time he broke the jinx by clinching two crucial break points in the final set to emerge victorious.
Other qualifiers were Argentine Carlos Berlocq and Pablo Cuevas of Uruguay. Berlocq defeated his fellow-countryman Juan Ignacio Chela 7-6 (5) 6-2 to cruise ahead. On the other hand, Cuevas defeated Portuguese Frederico Gil 7-5 4-6 7-6(3) in a marathon match that lasted for three-hour and 24 minutes.
