Third seeded Spaniard David Ferrer avenged his loss from last week to compatriot Juan Carlos Ferrero by beating the former world number one in the final of the the 2010 Abierto Mexicano Telcel, being played here in Acapulco, Mexico.
Ferrero, who entered the final with a 14 match winning streak that included two titles in Costa Do Sauipe and Buenos Aires, looked shaky from the very beginning of the match and despite levelling it at one set a piece, totally fell apart in the decider, losing the 6-3, 3-6, 6-1 match in one hour and 47 minutes of struggle.
With a win, Ferrer collected a winner's prize of US$ 227,000 and 500 valuable South African Airways
ATP Singles ranking points whereas Ferrero settled for US$ 106,500 and 300 ranking points.
In the women's draw, top seed and defending champion Venus Williams claimed her second title in Acapulco with a hard-fought 2-6, 6-2, 6-3 win over first time finalist Polona Hercog.
This is Williams 43rd Sony Ericsson WTA Singles title which ties her in the all time list at No.10 with former arch rival Martina Hingis. In the active crop of players, Venus leads the field, with her closest rival Justine Henin winning 41 titles.
