Second seed Fernando Verdasco will be looking forward to improve his 5-9 record in ATP World Tour finals, when he will take on eighth seed Juan Martin del Potro in the Estoril Open final on Sunday. In the semi-final, Juan Martin del Potro beat Pablo Cuevas with a 6-2 7-6 (8) scoreline in one hour and 48 minutes of play.
Del Potro, the 2009 US Open winner, did not concede a single break-point opportunity in the match. In the other semi-final duel, second seed Fernando Verdasco easily earned a victory as his opponent Milos Raonic decided to retire. Well, Spaniard Verdasco won the first set 6-4 before his Raonic decided to withdraw.
Both players carry an even 1-1 head-to-head record against each other. Recently, they took on each other in San Jose semis, where Verdasco dispatched the Argentine in straight sets with a 6-4 6-4 scoreline.
Well, in terms of current form and stats, Del Potro looks in a better position as compared to Verdasco. Well, the Argentine has a 20-6 win-loss record this season, while Verdasco carries a 9-8 win-loss record.
When asked about this duel, Verdasco said, "It will be a very hard match.” When asked about his opponent, he said, “He is playing well and he is a great player. He is in the final because he deserves it. He beat Soderling in the quarter-finals. Every match against Juan Martin is very hard, difficult. I will try my best to play my best tennis.
