Top seeded Roger Federer made a strong start to his grass court campaign with a 6-4 6-4 victory over Jarkko Nieminen of Netherlands at Gerry Weber Open, Halle on Tuesday.

Both the players held their serves till the ninth game when poor serving by Nieminen cost him the game and Federer wrapped up the opening set in the next game.
Federer continued to roll with the momentum in the second set also and broke Nieminen in the very opening game of the set.
He maintaned that break till the end and registered a straight set victory with 6-4 6-4 scoreline.
Second seed Nikolay Davydenko made a winning return to tour after a near two-month lay-off due to a left wrist injury.
The Russian defeated Simon Greul of Germany 7-6(1) 6-0.
In another match, German wild card Nicolas Kiefer scored his first win in seven months, when he aced past third-seeded Russian Mikhail Youzhny 4-6 6-1 7-5.
The German fired 19 aces in the match and next faces Andreas Beck who defeated Sergiy Stakhovsky of the Ukraine 6-1 7-5.
